How does the laser work?
The laser emits a beam of light into the skin, which is
absorbed by melanin granules in the hair follicle. This
light absorption creates thermal energy, or heat, which
kills the hair. The dead hair then falls out within 10-20
days after treatment.
Can laser treatment cause tissue damage/irritation?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment. The laser
beam is targeting color, so the more color that is present
in your hair follicle, the more laser energy is absorbed.
If the surrounding skin is also dark, then laser energy
can be absorbed into the skin as well. Your laserologist
will perform a spot test to determine how well your hair
and skin will respond to treatments and will then choose
the correct settings for your skin and hair type.
Why
will I need more than one treatment?
The laser (and electrolysis) will only be effective on actively
growing hairs. At any given time, you have many hair follicles
that are dormant or resting. During your hair removal treatments,
only these actively growing hairs can be treated. When your
dormant or resting hair follicles ‘wake up’ and emerge,
you will need a treatment. Since the follicles are producing
hair at different times, several visits will usually be
necessary for total treatment.
How many treatments will I need to achieve satisfactory hair removal?
Most clients will require 2-6 visits. This is due to the
various stages in which hair grows. The number of treatments
required also depends on your skin type and hair color.
How long does a treatment last?
Areas as large as the entire back or both legs can usually
be done in about an hour depending on the size of the area,
and the equipment being used. Smaller areas such as the
upper lip can be done in about 1-2 minutes! Hair removal
has never been faster!
How often will I need treatments?
This varies since each
individual’s hair growth occurs
at different rates. Treatments are usually spaced about
2-3 months apart.
Who responds best to laser treatment?
The ideal candidate for the laser is a fair skinned person
with dark hair. In these individuals, the light beam travels
to the hair follicle with minimal absorption by the skin.
Darker skinned people, people with light hair and people
with dark tans are less ideal for the treatment. A consultation
at the hair removal center of your choice will help you
decide the right treatment method for you.
What precautions do I need to observe when I am treated?
Avoid the sun for six weeks before and after the treatment.
Do not wax, bleach, pluck or get electrolysis on the areas
to be treated.
What happens during the procedure?
You will be given a pair of protective eye gear to be used
during treatment. The area to be treated should be clean,
and closely trimmed of excess hair. The laser will then
be used to deliver a series of pulses. The laser has a specific
cooling system as a part of the treatment to protect your
skin from burning.
